Real Party: Vivi’s Noah’s Ark Themed 2nd Birthday

I love Joni from Lay Baby Lay. Here sense of style, her color sensibility and graphic design skills are all just on point. Needless to say, when I saw what she did for her daughter Vivi’s second birthday, I wanted to stick it on Somewhere Splendid, even though there were only a few photos! Even so, I think you can still tell how much style is in it. I love the decorated tents, and the outdoor movie theater they put together- beyond fabulous! It really doesn’t need to be said, but I will anyway: the graphics are perfect. The Noah’s Ark theme is also one of the cutest and wittiest ideas I’ve seen for a second birthday, emphasizing the “Two by Two” part of the story. Feast your eyes, folks!

Blooms on a Budget: January 18, 2013

Blooms on a Budget from Somewhere Splendid.

Hello, everyone! A new year means new content for Somewhere Splendid. I’ve been racking my brain, trying to think of fresh ideas to keep delivering great inspiration for you. Today is the launch of the first of my concepts: a new series called “Blooms on a Budget.” I’ll be designing floral arrangements for $20 or less to help you put together your own floral decor without breaking the bank. In this series, I’ll be sourcing flowers from supermarkets, local flower shops, or floral markets rather than wholesale dealers in order to ensure the budgets are accurate and that it’s reasonable to assume you will have access to these flowers, as well. If I only use a portion of the bunch – say, half, or a quarter – that will be reflected in the final budget so that if you are estimating out the cost for multiples, the final price will be as close as possible. I may incorporate non-floral materials, in which case, those materials will also be included in the final cost. Vessels will not be included in the cost.

Let me know what you think! I’m looking forward to your feedback.

DIY Project: Modern Upcycled Planters

DIY Modern Upcycled Planters by Hello Cupcake for Somewhere Splendid. Photography by Woodnote Photography.

Last week, I joined Alt Summit’s online DIY Blogger Meetup and had the opportunity to connect with a lot of really fabulous crafty folks (more on that later). One of the lovely gals I was able to chat with was Stacy of Hello Cupcake, who sent over this affordable DIY way to spiffy up your house. Using some everyday items, you can recreate these modern (and eco-friendly!) planters for your home or office.

Splendid Source for Home: Regan’s Brain

Pillows from Regan's Brain via Somewhere Splendid. I’m always on the lookout for cute pillows for our home. Not only are they a quick and affordable way to freshen up the look of a room, but they’re very practical decor as well (read: my husband likes to nap on the couch a lot).  I stumbled across Regan’s Brain recently, and this adorable pair caught my eye. I love the mid-century inspired mustard color of the deer silhouette, and the graphic arrows on the other pillow mirror my chevron carpet without being the exact same pattern. After digging further, I was also excited to learn Regan is local to me, as I’m always delighted to learn of more talented folks in the Twin Cities area. For more of her delightful designs, check out the Etsy shop.

Oh Hello, Alt Summit.

Alt Summit Business Card Coasters by Somewhere Splendid.

I am so excited, guys! This year I’m finally headed to Alt Summit! I was supposed to go last year, but my pregnancy’s no-fly period ended up overlapping with the conference. This year, I’m dragging Shauna along so we can mix and mingle in support of Confetti Pop, as well. I’d love to meet you all, so please let me know if you’re coming, and maybe we can arrange to meet up. I’m handing out fancy gold foil coasters as my business cards (the preview pic above from my Instagram account), and I’d love to give you one! Plus, if you think that one is tons of fun, wait until you see the one for Confetti Pop!
