A Splendid Bit of News.

Bath Confetti DIY from Confetti Pop via Somewhere Splendid. Photography by Todd Hafermann.

Alright, well, I guess now is as good as any time to come clean: I’ve been suffering from Blogger Fatigue. I’m sure you’ve noticed: the only thing I have time to crank out are my beloved Blooms on a Budget posts, and I can even get off my game on that. In all honesty, I’m exhausted and creatively drained. I’m currently working on Confetti Pop, as well as at the TomKat Studio at the Managing Editor. Both projects seem to be producing so much more inspiration for me these days that Somewhere Splendid is sort of just… hanging around. Tonight, I took a good long soak in the tub and thought hard about its future. And I came to a big conclusion.

I don’t like what I’m doing here. At some point, Somewhere Splendid stopped being me and what I love. I stripped what was unique about what I have to offer from it in order to please other people, I think. I forgot that I’m a taste maker, and that I cut my teeth professionally offering people inspiration for entertaining and the everyday from my point of view. That voice was what made the Inspired Bride great, but somewhere in the few months after this blog launched, it faded from it.

So, sayonara to Real Parties (unless I absolutely wished I had thrown it myself or actually had a hand in creating them) and adios to a whole list of other things that made me feel like I was phoning it in. Instead, I’m going to head out behind the scenes for a little bit and work on some new editorial content that will make Somewhere Splendid feel more like a magazine and less like your average blog. I’d love to hear your thoughts, too. If there’s something you’d love to see, please let me know in the comments. Is there something you’d like me to add to the chopping block? No hard feelings, seriously! Let me know, because now is the time.

PS – isn’t this little Giftable Bath Confetti project I did for Confetti Pop awesome? The photography is courtesy of my ever awesome photographer buddy, Todd Hafermann.

  2. Hi Maddie,
In some way, I am happy to read your post. It takes courage and a good heart to be honest and open as you have been. I believe part of ‘living’ is having the guts to re-invent yourself every now and then. To sense you have taken a wander of the road you intended to travel and to have the courage to straighten it out.
Therefor: the best of luck on this endeavour and I can’t wait to see what you come up with!

I know for one that it is ‘not done’ to not post often on a blog, but I too don’t always have a lot to tell to the world. I find it better to make a significant post every now and then rather that to ‘spam’ the world on a daily basis even if I have nothing interesting to share. Don’t be afraid to bend (or break) the rules. Whatever you wish to share, will end up in my mailbox and I will be happy to read it. Daily, weekly or monthly ;)

  4. I absolutely love EVERYTHING you do…everywhere you are at. But at the end of the day, it is your blog and what you want to do is your call. My own content is dropping because my life gets hectic and I feel so guilty, like it’s a child I’m neglecting. But in a sense it is…I’ve worked hard to get it to where it is. But since it’s not, it’s ok to edit it anyway you feel. I concur with the previous comment, whatever you share, I’m happy to read it whenever it arrives.

  5. Maddie, *please* don’t cut your Blooms on a Budget series – I really enjoy those.
Good luck on the changes and good for you for knowing when to edit – that’s very brave and I’m sure that you will see things clearer and hopefully become more inspired.

  8. I’m glad you decided to take a step back…that’s a tough thing to do but I am glad that you did. It’s important to figure out who you are and what you really want to put out there as yours. Congratulations!

  9. Sometimes the more popular things become you kinda feel you have to change to continue to fit what you think everyone wants. I think it’s great your taking a step back to reacess what you want your site to look like! Take care

  10. Best wishes to you. It takes a lot of courage and confidence in oneself to admit when things have gotten sidetracked. Have really enjoyed reading through your posts (recent reader, first time commentor), but good luck with everything!
