A few months ago, the team at Style Me Pretty was kind enough to ask me to submit a DIY, recipe, or entertaining idea to their new SMP At Home series. I was happy to say yes – and with the photo skills of my pal Wing of Canary Grey Photography, I submitted these adorable root beer float shooters which, in a way, combines all three of the requested subjects! This modern take on a soda shop classic is a great way to add a bit of retro flair to your next shindig. Easy to make and a definite crowd pleaser, they’re as tasty as they are adorable.

Ingredients
- Multiple Small Ingredient Bowls (Microwave Safe)
- Tall Cordial or Mini Zombie Glasses (ours available here)
- Candy Melts
- Nonpareils
- Root Beer
- Vanilla Ice Cream (we recommend Haagen-Daz Five Vanilla Bean Ice Cream)
- Whipped Cream
- Chocolate Sprinkles
- Maraschino Cherries
- Striped Straws
- Melon Baller or Cookie Scoop
Instructions
Put candy melts and nonpareils into two separate ingredient bowls. Heat the candy melts according to the package directions. Be careful not to overcook.
Dip the rim of a single glass into the melted candy melts, then quickly dip it into the nonpareils so it coats the candy melts before it has time to cool and set. Set aside and repeat for the remaining glasses.
With a melon baller or cookie scoop, scoop out small balls of ice cream, putting one ice cream ball into each glass. Open a bottle of root beer, then pour slowly over the ice cream. Be careful – it will foam up quite a bit, so better to add less and add extra when it settles down.
When all the glasses have been filled and the foam has settled a bit, pipe some whipped cream on the top of the float. Add chocolate sprinkles and top with a cherry, then insert a striped straw and serve!
