Making It Modern: Planning for the Spring

There’s still 20+ inches of snow on the ground, but it’s time to start thinking about plans for the garden. I already planted several peonies in the front yard in the fall, and now I want to add another favorite flower to our landscape: garden roses! These beauties, also known as David Austin roses, have the soft ruffles that I love from peonies and an amazing floral fragrance.

While the house’s color palette uses blue in each room, I decided to break from that for the outdoors and opt for shades of pink and yellow in the garden and its furniture. When it’s warm enough to be outdoors in Minnesota, you want to celebrate it! I wanted to the color palette to be very spring-like.  I wanted to pull in pinks and peachy pinks in the flowers with the pops of yellow in the furniture.

The flowers above are the final contenders for the garden. I’ll probably end up with about five or six varieties in total. Considering I have twelve really gorgeous choices, this is going to be a tough decision! Nevertheless, I’m incredibly excited to start planting and even more excited to see these stunners bloom!

  3. I did about an hour of gardening today..mostly maintenance(translate: pulling weeds)and raking more leaves leftover from the fall/winter. It would be lovely to have these roses grace my front and backyard.
