Making It Modern: Saturday Plans.

Sunday night, a tragedy happened. My bed frame broke as I was getting ready to go to bed. Yes, that’s right. Getting in. On my own. Get your mind out of the gutter.

The bed frame is only a few years old, which makes the whole situation infuriating. I’m officially on a 4-for-4 bad quality streak with West Elm furniture. Previously, I’ve had a coffee table that started getting peeling veneer after six months, a dining table that started bowing towards the floor after about a year, and a set of dressers that would never assemble square so the drawers would bang into each other. I’m determined to avoid getting into this situation again, so from now on, it’s WE home decor and lighting only for Maddy. Grumble, grumble.

So that brings me to Saturday. It’s not what I want to be spending money on right now, but if I have to buy a new bed frame, we’re going to invest in a high end one that will last us a while and won’t spontaneously break after barely putting any pressure on it. We’re going to go with a Room and Board bed frame, and because I’m not interested in shelling out the big bucks, we’re going to dig through the local R&B outlet for a few weeks until we find one we really love. That means we may be sleeping on a mattress in the middle of our living room (and, when we remove the broken frame, back to our bedroom) for a few weeks, but saving money is good! Some of the styles I’ll be on the hunt for are above. Thoughts?

  1. I pick the second one, upholstered in grey!
    good luck!

  2. I like that one too. That or the fourth I think. We’ll see what we get!

  3. I agree with the bed in the darker grey, with the barely there footboard. I’m not overly keen on footboards (and judging by your choices there, perhaps you’re not either?) however that one has won me over. At any rate, I’m very into grey at the moment. That one has pretty feet, too. Elegance in a non-fussy way. Happy bed seeking!

  4. Lucky you! You have a Room & Board outlet near you. Oh, and by the way, I love the fourth one.

  5. We have the Room & Board Anders Bed, purchased about 3 years ago. It’s a king size, and we’ve had problems with it squeaking, sagging and in general it seems like it’s just not strong enough for 2 people. We love the design, and if maybe we had it in a smaller size, think it would be perfect. We did buy a room & board mattress as well, and it is so heavy that might be the problem. Good luck!
